Chapter 4, Verse 6 “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Augustine is reported to have said that God gives what He demands. Thank God! His demands are too great, but His grace is greater than the demands. All is not lost. Our ability to live up to God’s jealousy is weak. We have trouble maintaining single mindedness in our life with God; but left to ourselves, we would surely mess it up. God knows if we are trying. God knows our hearts and recognizes our effort to do better. Our humility in accepting our inability calls God to our rescue. God gives grace. How much grace? Enough. Not enough to make us proud, that is for sure. It is grace given in recognition of our humbleness in need.
Task for Today: Need more grace? You are in luck. Just humble yourself before God and ask. He has more than enough and will give you as much as you need. What a wonderful thought. My lack versus God’s bounty. My need versus God’s generosity. You and I have access to an endless supply of grace. Is that an excuse to sin more? No way, or as Paul said, “May it never be!”
