Blind and Deaf

Blind and Deaf (Philip Dampier)

There are none as blind as we,

Though given eyes we cannot see

How much we need to trust in thee

For the saving of our souls.

So proud we are of all we do

We seem to feel we can help you

By sitting on a church’s pew

While wearing our Sunday best.

Your spirit, Lord, must really sag

When our understanding lags

“Not by works lest we should brag.”

Falls on ears that are closed.

Open our hearts that we may know

Your grace was given even thought

We were sinners and could not go

To the cross for our sins.

Lord, please help us understand

We had no part in heaven’s plan

To bring salvation down to man.

It is the gift of your love.
