Comments on James

Chapter 1, Verse 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.”

Desire might be considered a natural occurrence to a person, but when desire is allowed to entice one beyond the natural it gives way to sin. This is a warning not to give in to a desire but to resist it because of where giving in leads. Yielding to desire leads straight into sin and unabated sin leads unto death.

Obviously James intends his readers to understand that when one gives in to the tempting desire that person is setting a chain of events off which will not have a good ending. Desire entices wrong behavior and the wrong behavior creates sin which ends in separation from God, which is death.

Task for Today: Know that God doesn’t cause us to sin and Satan does not cause us to sin. Sin is our choice. Whether we give in to desire or resist is up to us. How are you dealing with desire? Do you have a plan? Remind yourself that God will provide all that you need and if you place your desire on Him you will not be tempted to sin.
