Comments on James

Chapter 1, Verses 6-8 “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

James says asking for wisdom is a ‘slam dunk’ but you still have to believe God without doubt. We can see from his point here why we need a steadfast faith that has been tested and proved. If we want to use the power of prayer we must remove hints of doubt. When we say, ‘But your will be done?’ are we stating a desire or a doubt. We are not to leave God an out. We are to ask in complete faith that God will do what is right in our life, every time.

James’ summary seems harsh. Doesn’t God expect us to doubt? James indicates that He doesn’t. God wants us to believe. God answers every prayer we offer. Every single request is heard and decided. God will always do what is the right thing to do. (Gen. 18:25)

Task for Today: Think about it. If you can’t trust God then who can you trust? A person who can’t trust God will live an unstable life because they have no anchor to hold them and they will be tossed to and fro. Do you trust God? Do you trust Him every time you pray? If not, change your prayer life. Change your faith life. Give yourself wholly to God in total surrender.
