Chapter 2, Verse 15 “…that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,”

Paul is not advocating sinlessness. He is aware that that kind of blameless is impossible. But they can achieve an excellent reputation from without. They needed to clean up their act as far as their grumbling and arguing were concerned. There was plenty of that, as there still is, in the world. The church should appear blameless and innocent in relationship to the world around them. Children of God have a responsibility to appear free from the stain of the world.

Paul describes the non-Christian world as crooked and twisted. In such an environment Christians, God’s children, should appear as shinning lights. The world is filled with darkness but the children of God should provide light. The church must provide a light to illuminate the pathway to heaven. “This Little Gospel Light of Mine” may have been a Vacation Bible School song but that doesn’t change the truth of its message. We as children of God have a gospel light. There is the problem of hiding the light under the bushel, however.

Task for Today: Think carefully about what this verse shows as your role in the plan of redemption of the world. There is no question about the crooked and twisted generation. The question is more about where is the light. Where is your light during the week? Not asking about Sunday. Where is it at work, school, or play? If you have a bushel handy get rid of it today. Let your little light shine! You are called to be a light of the world.
