Comments on Philippians

Chapter 2, Verse 14 “Do all without grumbling or disputing,”

It appears there was some disagreement among members of the Philippian church. No group can accomplish much when it is splintered into factions. They were to work together to bring about salvation of the church, but how could they do that if they were at odds with each other? Paul issues another imperative. Do your obedience to God but don’t complain or argue about doing it. A lot of new congregations would not have been started had the members followed this imperative. Don’t grumble and don’t argue!

The church has one Lord, one Savior.  It is filled with one Holy Spirit. Paul could very well have given them the same message he gave the Ephesians. “I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit…” (Eph 4:1-4)

Task for Today: “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peacefully with all.” (Rom. 12:18) Always try to be a part of the solution rather than a part of the problem. You cannot allow your personal wants to hinder the gospel. So, two things to do today. One, be positive in action and words. Two, avoid personal confrontations that hinder the work of Christ.
