I am restarting my blog with a comments on Philippians verse by verse study. Hope you will join me and others as we look at this interesting letter from Paul. There will also be other subjects covered, including a study of the Temple in the Bible. I plan on including installments of a short western story that is a sequel to my novel, Dakota Marshal. I have limited advertising funds as I don’t sell ads on my blog so I am counting on you, my reading friends, to pass the word and invite your friends to join us in our pursuit of Biblical knowledge.
Comments on Philippians

When Paul made his second mission trip he wound up in the city of Troas. It was there that he received the Macedonian vision calling him to help them. Paul, Silas and the rest of the group went to Philippi. It was there, just outside the city, Paul met Lydia and converted her and her household to Christ.
Later in Philippi, Paul cast a demon out of a slave girl. It resulted in Paul being arrested and beaten. Paul and Silas wound up in prison but an earthquake set them free. The church that was founded there was Paul’s first church in that part of the world. We would see plenty of reason for the mutual love that would develop between it and Paul.
The fellowship in Philippi was the first European church founded by Paul. This was likely one of the primary reasons why this particular church had a unique, strong bond with the apostle. Although composed primarily of those who were poor, the church sent supplies to Paul several times.
We know from the letter that the Philippians supported Paul in his efforts, sending gifts to him even thought they were a poor church.
Philippi was established in eastern Macedonia by the father of Alexander the Great, Philip II. He was the king of Macedonia and wanted a site to secure some nearby gold. Philippi was where Octavian and Marc Antony met Brutus and Cassius in battle. They made Philippi a Roman colony.
