Haggai 2:6 “For thus says the LORD of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land.”
You’ve probably used the expression, “…shake things up.” Read about the original shaker of all things. It is God. When God doesn’t like the way things are going one of His responses is to “shake things up.” His things include everything. Heavens and earth. The entire universe is at His bidding and when He desires He can move things around. This is of course a reference to the coming of the Messiah and His kingdom. The world has not been the same since Jesus was resurrected. Just as Jesus shook up the Jews so God shook the entire world. Old things died and all things were made new. A new kingdom and a new king came into being. Everlasting is their nature.
We might mention that God’s concept of time and our concept are not parallel. What was a little while to Him was centuries to us. Don’t put God on our timetable. Men err when they give up on God whether in private prayer or world expectations. God cannot be constrained to our timeframe, He is eternal. The prophets all were in a hurry for God to avenge them from their enemies and often cried ‘how long.’ We cry ‘Come quickly, Lord Jesus,’ and wonder why He tarries.
In an eternity, what is a year or a thousand? The fullness of time for earth is near. Tomorrow maybe or in my great grandchildren’s lifetime or a thousand years from now. When God’s patience ends so will time. When God is ready to dispense His wrath, time will end. Heavens will shake once more, the earth will crumble and burn and all that is a part of the creation story will be swept away and exist no more.
Task for Today: What is your task? Be ready. You know not the day or hour so every hour is a possible. Be ready. Once He comes repenting time will be over. Be ready. You will face Him on His throne with the books open. Be ready. Make sure today that your name is written in the book of life. Once the book is closed there will be no late entries.
