Comments on Verses from Prophets

Amos 3:3 “Do two walk together, unless they have agreed to meet?”

This verse is also translated ‘unless they agree.’ Either way we understand the question. Harmony and agreement have a lot to do with each other. God wants to walk with us but He can’t and won’t unless we are in agreement. Since God is pure and holy and unchangeable it leaves us as the ones who need to agree. Israel lived in disagreement with God; often violating His commandments and ignoring Him for other Gods.

You can’t walk with God and some other thing you consider a god at the same time. The question facing the Israelites under Joshua also faced the Israelites under Amos. “Choose you this day whom you will serve?” is also a question for us. We too cannot walk with opposite companions. We can and will walk with the one we are in agreement with.

Task for Today: Who are you walking with? Who are you most in agreement with? Today, like all days, is a day of decision. Choose your walking companion for today. I hope it’s the God of Jesus and I hope you are ordering your life to be in agreement with Him. Are you thinking about it?
