Comments on Verses from Prophets

Daniel 6:3 “Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.”

Daniel is a captive, held by unbelieving people against his will and in a strange land. He is now in the service of the third king. In spite of the situation, Daniel has maintained a sense of honor through his integrity to God and that integrity showed up in his relationship with the kings. How was this known by the kings? It was an excellent spirit that inhabited Daniel. The young man had shown no signs of bitterness, no interest in revenge as king came and went. Constantly threatened by foreign kings and leaders, enduring jealous attempts against his person, yet he remained level and dependable.

An excellent spirit. Where did it come from? What was it about Daniel and the other Hebrew lads that allowed them to rise above the occasion? The spirit in Daniel and the others came from God. I have heard similar stories from POWs held in Viet Nam during the conflict there. In spite of torture, physical and mental, many of them say God brought them through it. His Spirit was with them. The Spirit of God gave them an inner peace beyond anything the world can imagine.

Task for Today: Quick check! Is the Spirit of the living God in you? How are you doing in difficult situations and times? At work, at home do other see an excellent spirit in you? The Light of the World would love to reside in your heart. Today, let Him in. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock…” God wants to be the excellent spirit in your life. What about it?
