Comments on Verses from Prophets

Jeremiah 8:21, 22 “For the wound of the daughter of my people is my heart wounded; I mourn, and dismay has taken hold on me. Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?”

Jeremiah laments the condition of his people even though he knows why they are in the position they are in. Knowing their sins and their refusal to repent and turn to God breaks his heart. God continues to enlighten Jeremiah as to the treachery of Judah and it just gets worse and worse. Because it gets worse, God continues to tell Jeremiah the things that He will do.

The harvest time has come and gone and salvation has not appeared. There is no healing of the land. Jerusalem is not restored. Is it because there is no balm in the land? Is there no doctor to heal? Yes, there is medicine and a physician in the land. Then why aren’t the people healed. Because they won’t change, they won’t turn to God and they refuse to know Him as their God.

Task for Today: Do you know about the balm in Gilead? It is there for the people of God but not for those who reject Him. Do you know the Great Physician?  He brings healing on His wings. Dear readers, there is no reason to live and die in bad health when God offers healing. Lay aside your garments that are stained with sin, be washed in the blood of Jesus. He will bind your wounds and heal your soul of its sins. Trust in God today by turning from the past and joining the body of believers. The church is like a hospital for the soul and the emergency room is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
