Comments on Verses from Prophets

Isaiah 40:31 “but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Waiting is hard for most of us. History is full of stories of those who couldn’t wait. One of the most famous Bible stories is that of Saul, who couldn’t wait on Samson. Peter talks about impatient scoffers, “They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation”(2 Peter 3:4).

Peter reminds the scoffers that God keeps His promises, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

Whether we are waiting salvation or punishment, we can trust that God will come. Perhaps not as fast as we expect, but He will come. And when He comes, those who have been patient, faithful, and expectant will be rewarded. Tired or plain exhausted from tribulation, God will bring a renewal of strength. God’s people will win out. God’s people will be victorious all the way to the very end. God’s people will win a crown signifying their eternal victory.

Task for Today: Don’t give up because you are weary. Don’t despair as those who have no hope. God will see you through. He will renew your strength if you keep the faith. Stand firm on the promises of God. God will give you legs to run and the heart to continue to run no matter how steep the hill or rough the terrain.
