“For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.”
There is a major difference in the discipline of earthly fathers or mothers and the discipline of God, our heavenly father. Their discipline was short in duration because we soon outgrew it. It was also based on human understanding of the time. God’s discipline is a lifetime commitment to our spiritual development. His discipline is based on Godly knowledge, which is complete in that it covers the past, present, and future.
If you are a great grandparent, you know that the discipline your parents used was not exactly like that you used and your children’s even more so, and their children’s discipline is beyond understanding. It is short, and it is based on their understanding of what is good. God’s discipline for your parents, you, your grandchildren, and your great-grandchildren has a common theme. His discipline was and is exactly what each person needed to make it to heaven.
Task for Today: Make sure you accept the discipline of God in your life. It is for your good that you might share in the holiness of God. Do not question God’s discipline today. It is what you need; every aspect carefully selected by an all-knowing and all-wise God and tailored specifically for you. Ultimately, all things are arranged by God to work out for your good. Today, yield your will to his.
