“…chosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.”
This is a preview of how things work on earth. Look at the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus. The important thing about that story is not the mistreatment of Lazarus or the pleasures of the rich man. No, the important thing is the end results. Sometimes we get so caught up in our story that we only see what’s happening now and are blinded to the coming ending.
According to our choice, we will pay the consequences of the pleasures of sins or the rewards of those who choose the people of God. It’s so simple, and yet we struggle with the choice. The pleasures of sin are so enticing; they seem so rewarding that we are blinded to their ultimate result. Moses made a wise choice. Not a pleasant choice, not an earthly rewarding choice but a wise choice because he chose God.
Task for Today: Paul encourages us to lay aside the sin that easily besets us. You need to recognize what the Devil is using against you today. No matter how glittering, you must resist. It is better to suffer for being a Christian than to enjoy the earthly rewards of that particular sin. Resist the Evil One, and he will be forced to let you be. Live by faith rather than pleasure.
