Hebrews 10:7

“Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’”

The coming of the Messiah (Christ) of God was indeed written in the book. It was foretold in many places in the book. Even Moses foretold of the coming of a prophet like himself. The entire Jewish community looked forward to that coming. The coming Christ was a major part of their thinking and writings. It was discussed over and over, and the expectations of the impact his coming would have on the Jewish nation and the rest of the world occupied much of the peoples’ time.

The Christ came, but after all that expectation, thinking, and writing, they failed to receive Him. After years of study, they had come up with their own picture of what the Christ would be like, and Jesus failed to match that picture. But, as the psalmist tells us, the Christ came not to please men or satisfy their desires and wants but to do the will of God. This is the problem that many people have had and still have. We think we know what God should do and what God should plan and we forget His warning that we are light years away from His thought process.

Task for Today: Know God. Know that God is superior in every way to you as a mere mortal. It is us that must get in line with the thinking of God and not the other way around. Too many of us are like the famous leper who wanted to think for God’s prophet. Don’t. Listen to the Christ and follow His way. Otherwise, you will miss out on your own cleansing.
