“He has no need, like those high priests to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.”
The Aaronic priest made sacrifices daily. They first had to make sacrifices for their own sins and afterward for the sins of the people. They did this over and over, day after day. All manner of sacrifices for all manner of things. Everyone brought sacrifices to the temple for the priests to offer for them. Every day saw a steady stream of people needing to offer sacrifices. The priests were kept busy, over and over again.
This went on year after year. Thousands, millions of sacrifices offered in the tabernacle and then the temple. A never-ending sea of blood spilled on the altars and then the mercy seat of God in the holy of holies. All the time, looking forward, foreshadowing the true sacrifice and high priest. In this case, the sacrifice and the one offering the sacrifice were the same.
Jesus ended the repetitious offering of inferior sacrifices by inferior priests by offering his own blood and life before the true holy of holies. It was a once and for all for everyone.
Task for Today. Thank Jesus for being sacrifice and sacrifice. Thank God for His unspeakable gift. No need to worry about a sacrifice. No need to fret if you offered the right thing at the right time. Jesus did it all and all to Him we owe. Thank you, Jesus.
