“Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” (Psalm 121:4)

This psalm begins with the well-known verse, “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?” We know the answer, “My help comes from the Lord.” Isn’t it wonderful to know that the source of our help, our Redeemer and savior never takes a moment off? As God’s spiritual Israel today we may look to the proverbial hills and rest in the assurance that God is on His self-appointed task. He has made the decision to rescue us from all evil including ourselves and He is relentless in that task.

Security guards, regardless of their skills, must rest. Sooner or later they will nod and close their eyes in slumber. The thief often comes at night while we are asleep, but our God never closes His eyes. Day and night God stands guard over His people protecting them from any harm. Are you signed up for His protective services? Is the God who protected His people of old also your protector?

Task for Today: Realize that you can’t be awake all the time. Understand that without Heaven you have no protection from evil. You may already have a security service to protect your house and other property. You may even have a service to protect you from bodily harm but do you have your soul secured? For true twenty-four-seven protection of your most valuable asset better subscribe to the God of Israel who never rests.
