Psalm 70:5

“But I am poor and needy; hasten to help me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay!” (Psalm 70:5)

There is certainly a sense of urgency in this psalm. A sense of need which only God can provide. It is an excellent reminder to us of how much we need God. We, like the psalmist, are poor and needy. He was not talking about “things” but about his inability to manage life alone. The enemy is pursuing us and we best not forget it. The New Testament says the devil is a roaring lion; a lion who seeks to eat us up. He will if we try to fight him on our own. We are so limited in resources when fighting a spiritual warfare, and the sooner we acknowledge that, the better we will be.

The psalmist knew it. He knew how desperate his situation was. His plea is not only for help but that God would hurry. When fighting the enemies of God, we cannot afford to waste any time confronting them on our own. When Satan came against Jesus to try to turn Him from God, Jesus did not defend Himself on His own. “It is written,” was His defense. God said is a powerful weapon which we can use in our own fight.

Task for Today: Don’t try to disarm Satan on your own. Study the scriptures and use them as your defense. Call upon God to be your refuge and fortress. Put on the whole armor of God so that you can stand against the evil one. Recognize that you are poor and needy when it comes to ability and skill in fighting evil. Ask God to hasten to your side, and He will defeat the enemy for you.
