Comments on Verses from the Psalms

The Psalms were favorites of the Jewish community to the extent that they were memorized and were sung in their various meetings. These same psalms were being sung when Jesus entered the world, and after His departure, they were used by the early church. Many of them are quoted in the New Testament, and we will be looking at those verses and how they are interpreted by the New Testament writers. This does not purport to be a critical look at either the Psalms or the particular verse from the Psalms singled out. There are a large number of works available for those who want to study language, style, and certain background materials. I have undertaken to choose a verse from each of the 150 psalms to comment on how it might prompt certain behavior from a reader in these modern times. Each verse or verses end with a Task for Today section in which an effort is made to encourage the reader to think about the verse(s) in light of today’s choices and actions. The text is meant to be thought-provoking rather than a deeper unveiling of the original whether by language or by usage. The comments are those of the author and do not reflect the viewpoint or theological position of anyone else.

Comments on Verses from the Prophets

This short work provides comments on some of the key verses of the Old Testament Prophets. It is not meant to be a commentary in the usual sense of the term and is not a verse-by-verse comment on any of the books of the prophets.

The book lends itself to a quick look at some of the more interesting things the prophets had to say with an effort to make them useful to the twenty-first century reader. Most New Testament readers have a limited knowledge of the prophecy section of the Old Testament so this exercise provides an overview of what all the prophets were concerned about.

As in my other comment books, each verse is followed with a Task for Today section. Use this to focus on how you can use the verse it follows. Doing that once a day will provide many personal growth activities.

Comments on Galatians

Comments on Galatians is a verse by verse look at the text with a practical application for today. Readers are challenged to put the text to work in their own lives. Great for devotional use or as a small group study guide. Not intended as a deep study with Greek and Hebrew but can be utilized by all levels of Bible learning. A companion book to “The Faithful Saints of Ephesus.” Belongs on every Christian’s study shelf.

To the Faithful Saints at Ephesus

A verse by verse commentary on the book of Ephesians with a practical application for today’s world. Not a commentary in the usual sense but more like comments on each verse with an ending Task for Today. Ideal for a devotional reader or a classroom study. Ideas for teachers and students alike. An understandable commentary that is easy to read and yet filled with some interesting information that is usable.

Comments on Hebrews

This is a verse by verse commentary on the New Testament book of Hebrews. It is meant to be used as a study aide and for daily devotionals. Comments are made on each verse and are followed by a Task for Today section which encourages the reader to put the lesson on the verse into action in their life.
