Comments on James

Chapter 2

Chapter 2, Verse 1  “My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.”

Christians have had several centuries to correct this wrong behavior but occasions suggests that they have not really done so. In spite of all the warnings about judging others based on outward observations, believers continue to measure others based on social or political features rather than the inward man.

James’ warning is directed directly to issues dealing with the brotherhood. James is concerned lest we bring the value judgments of the world into the body of Christ. Within the faith, the church of Jesus, there is simply no place for partiality of any kind. Economic standing, ethnic background, level of education or gender.

The Lord of Glory.  The title identifies Jesus as God, embodying the “weightiness” and splendor of God’s presence. While Psalm 24:10 refers to God as the “King of glory,” Paul uses it to describe Jesus prior to His crucifixion. The Hebrew writer describes Jesus as the “…radiance of the glory of God.” (Hebrews 1:3)

Task for Today: Behavior check time. Do you treat all brothers and sisters the same in the church? Seeing Jesus as the Lord of Glory as you view others and self will help get things in the right perspective.
