Comments on James

Chapter 1, Verse 22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

James gets to the heart of the matter and speaks directly to us. It doesn’t matter if you are a daily Bible reader if you are not a daily Bible doer. You do well to read the Bible through in a year but you do better to do the part that you read today. We like to quote Paul and Peter and remind ourselves and others that they ‘said’ do this or that but do we do it first ourselves?

To claim Bible knowledge is not bad but to claim Bible action is so much better James is saying. At that great getting up morning we will be judged on action rather that content. How many times we read a verse or even if we can quote it will have no weight on the decision of the judge. It will be all about doing.

Task for Today: Change your goal of how much you read to how much you do. Find a do verse and read it and then do it. Do one a day. Knowing how to reap but not reaping will not bring in a harvest.
