Comments on James

Chapter 1, Verse 16-17 “Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

Suggesting that God is the cause of temptation to sin is a serious accusation. That God allows temptation to occur is true but to say He does the tempting is contrary to the nature of God who is the source of all that is good. It is impossible for God to do evil and to tempt those whom He will judge to do evil is just as impossible. In spite of the nature of man and the cost of man’s sin God will have no part in causing man’s condemnation.

To the contrary, God only produces that which is good and that is all God wills for His creation. This is a permanent characteristic of God and is assured to every generation of humanity.

Does God test His creation? Yes, God uses various tests to determine the faith of His followers. A trial is not a desire to be blown up into sinful behavior, however.

Task for Today: Under no circumstances should you blame God for your sin. It is His eternal desire that you not sin. In fact, God provides a way for you to escape temptations so that you do not sin. As you meet desires, keep an eye open for the escape door. God will provide an exit door for you.
