Chapter 1, Verse 12 “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”
Remember that the trials produce steadfastness and are to be welcomed. James explains the connection here by saying that the steadfastness resulted in an even bigger reward. Being strong through the test results in a crown. This particular crown is reserved for those who are victorious. This is not a crown of gold or silver like so many royal crowns, but is so much richer and finer. This crown is life itself. Not physical, earthly life. Steadfast or not, man has physical life at birth and up till his death. This crown is eternal life.
This eternal life is a promised reward and is issued by God Himself who made the promise. Those who love God and keep His word will receive this reward of victory. Victory over sin and thus victory over death comes through Jesus the Son of God and is passed on to those who become His people. This promised reward is one of those we sing about in Standing on the Promises. Like in the song, it cannot fail. Review: Trial, steadfastness, reward.
Task for Today: We are challenged today to remain steadfast. We must hold to God’s unchanging hand while standing on the solid rock. As long as we cling to God, Satan cannot harm us. As long as we maintain our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ we cannot fail. Hold on in the storm. Victory is yours as long as you keep your eyes on Jesus. He will not let you go and you must not let Him go.
