Comments on James

Chapter 1, Verses 2-4 “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

Trials are to be met with joy. Not just joy, but nothing but joy. Wow! What are you saying, James? I should be happy when various difficulties arise in my life? That is exactly what he is saying and leaving no room for any grumbling. Why? Because the end result when you accept the trial for what it is will stabilize your faith. Keep in mind that James is exhorting faith as an important and essential factor in the Christian’s life.

Let the faith building have full reign. Take every bit you can. You need faith and so you need trials. By the way, the “Count it all joy” statement is a form of command. A strong faith is so important that we should embrace faith building trials with happy gratitude. All Christians should want to be perfect and complete and James is giving us the key to accomplish that feat. How about it? Do you feel as if you lack nothing in your walk with the Lord?

Task for Today: A trial is coming your way. Get ready. Don’t fight it. Use it. Build a steadfast faith when it comes. Whatever it is, God will be with you and you will win a victory when it is past. Want help with your unbelief? Meet your next trial with joy.
