Prayer Aims

Prayer Aims

Let’s take a few moments to think about our personal prayers. If we examine them closely can we establish a theme? Do we pray for the same things or types of things? If so, what is our desired outcome? Do we pray for us to do God’s will or for God to do our will? Do we ask God’s blessings on what we want to accomplish and achieve in the way we think is best or do we pray for God to take care of us and not consider the how?

Are our prayers from the standpoint of a servant to master or are they seeking to persuade the master to our way of thinking? In all honesty, do we pray with an open mind as to the outcome or do we pray with our own expectations? Do we pray with the realization that we control nothing and God controls everything? That should be our goal in prayer. It was the goal Jesus manifested, wasn’t it? “Not my will…”

We can pray for God to change our situation or we can pray for God to change us by the situation. We can pray for God to make us stronger not make things easier. We can pray for strength to carry the burden or pray for the burden to be taken away.

Task for Today: Pray for the power to see things through rather than for things to be removed. Pray for endurance to obey and faith to accept God’s sovereignty. Pray with the belief that God will only do what is in our best interest. Pray with a “I surrender all” attitude.
