Chapter 4, Verse 12 “I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.”

We eagerly await Paul’s explanation. How does he know these things that we struggle with on a regular basis? In every circumstance? It seems impossible to us today. Maybe Paul lived in an easier time. Fleeing for his life, imprisoned, betrayed, lied about, shipwrecked, snake bit and on and on it goes. No, Paul’s life was not easier than ours and yet he found the secret to contentment.

Give us your secret, Paul. We want to smile through the storms and live positive through the negatives. More than that, we want to be content. To be satisfied with who we are and what we have. To know a daily peace in a world of strife and trouble is our heart’s desire. Give me the secret to that inner peace, dear Apostle.

Task for Today: A good place to start is to desire the contentment. A good portion of our problem is that we want more but don’t really know what the more is we want. Set priorities for what is really important. That is a way of saying, ‘Put God first.’ If God is first you will always have Him and other things will not matter as much. Be honest, if God does not satisfy you then you can’t ever be content.
