Chapter 4, Verse 10 “I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity.”
Paul reminds them of his appreciation for their support in his present circumstance. They would have done more sooner if they had been able. Paul is thankful for the blessings God has bestowed upon him and for the Philippian church that God used to do so. One of the reasons Paul wrote this letter was to thank the Philippian church for all the love they had shown him and so he ends the letter thanking them again.
And what a blessing it must have been to have such caring friends while he was being held in prison. Sharing in the troubles of another person is a wonderful way to be a servant of Christ. This church was a powerful witness to what we as Christians can do today.
Task for Today: You can start by praying for those around the world who are in prison for the cause of Christ. You can speak out to your representatives about those Christians who are being persecuted in other countries where the U. S. has influence. You can finance organizations who are working to free Christians where they are in danger. Paul used the word ‘concern’ in his letter. You can be concerned which may lead to an opportunity.
