Chapter 4, Verse 5 “Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;”

It seems natural that a joyful life would lead to gentle spirit toward others. Not only should the world see Christians as joyful people but as people who are fair minded, just, and gentle towards others. It should be natural that when you have everything important in the world, you yourself are meek and gentle to those who do not and you live a life of extended mercy.

The Lord is near. He is nearby. But more than that, His coming again is at hand. James had the same idea when he wrote, “You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door.” (James 5:8, 9)

Task for Today: In his second letter, Peter recounted what would happen at the end of time. In light of those terrible things he asked the question, “…what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God,…” (2 Peter 3:11,12) That thought should give us something to do today.
