Comments on Philippians

Chapter 4, Verses 2  and 3 “I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord.  Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.”

We don’t know what the disagreement was between these two Christian women but we do know what they should do. What we all should do when disagreements arise. Agree in the Lord. And what should our brothers and sisters do when we disagree? Help us come to an agreement. These are good women, servants of the gospel, fellow workers with Paul and most significantly, their names are written in the book of life.

Disagreements happen between Christians. But Paul wants to make sure they don’t last. The longer disagreements go on the more dangerous to harmony and peace they become. The church cannot allow such disagreements to fester and the church cannot take sides. The church must follow the Word of God and encourage all the body to come to agreement. As Christians we cannot allow disagreements to harm the fellowship we are a part of, and so we cannot be part of disagreements ourselves, except to provide wise and loving council.

Task for Today: As far as you are concerned, live at peace with everyone. Be a peacemaker. Work and pray for harmony among the brethren. Say and do nothing that brings strife into the fellowship. If you must take a side, take Christ’s side.
