Comments on Philippians

Chapter 3, Verses 20 and 21 “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

The false Jewish teachers had their minds on earthly things but Paul is reminding the Philippians that they belong to a heavenly group. Philippians were Roman citizens and as such, prided their citizenship. How much more to be able to claim to be citizens in God’s heaven.

Although Paul had no idea when Jesus was returning to gather the saints he had no doubts that He was coming back. All of us who claim citizenship in heaven look forward to the return of Jesus to save us from the destruction of the evil ones. In the process of doing that, Jesus will also transform all the saved from their lowly, earthly, perishable bodies to ones very much like His glorious body. If this seems impossible, Paul assures them and us that Jesus has the power and has demonstrated it to us in the world.

Task for Today: There are many today who wish to talk about the return of Jesus as if they had a secret source of information. Do not be misled for it is certain that neither Jesus, nor angels, nor mortal men know when it will be. Your job today is to prepare as if it were today. We must be so ready that we can pray, “Come Lord Jesus and make it today.”
