Chapter 3, Verse 16 “Only let us hold true to what we have attained.”
As things come up seek God’s direction but as to what we have already learned, hold on to it. No new gospel is needed or wanted. The Philippians’ walk, under Paul’s teaching and the Holy Spirit’s guidance had gotten them to this point, and Paul encourages them to maintain what they have achieved. The possibilities of being led astray by those false teachers who had appeared among them would continue to exist. Don’t stray from the path you’re on, Paul admonishes, and rely on the work of the Holy Spirit as new things are brought to your attention.
Paul is definitely reminding the Philippians that they and he are on the same wave length and should stay there. Paul will keep the course and his admonition to this group is for them to do the same. This church is blessed by the presence of an apostle who has taken them under his personal guidance. All they have to do is follow Paul like he follows Christ.
Churches of today would not make a mistake in doing the same thing. Follow Paul’s example and teaching and hold on to it when opposition is encountered.
Task for Today: Hold on. Live under the guidance of truth and the Holy Spirit. If you have been washed in the blood and placed in the kingdom of God, hold on to what you know to be the truth having daily tested it against the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives in you today to help you walk in the light. Lean on Him.
