Comments on Philippians

Chapter 3, Verse 15 “Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.”

Paul’s statement is a second plural imperative. It’s not all of you, it’s those of us. He sets the way as a mature follower and challenges the Philippians to operate from that same stance of maturity. Knowing Christ completely and following Him in every aspect of life is Paul’s stated goal and one he would insist any mature believer would pursue. Nothing else matters to Paul and he encourages the church to have that same mind set. Paul wants to know Christ and Him crucified and all else in the world is nothing to him. Naturally, he would want the same for this church that is so dear to him.

As they press on to the high calling in Christ they would continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit and the things that confronted them would be brought to light. We are so fortunate today to have not only the written word of the Holy Spirit but the indwelling of the Spirit as well. We therefore have no reason for not thinking maturely and pressing on with every ounce of our being for our goal in Christ.

Task for Today: Think like Paul. Follow his teaching and example. Let the Holy Spirit guide you as a mature Christian to the knowledge you need in order to press on. Of course, you must press on to learn what the Holy Spirit teaches. Read the scriptures and pray for the Spirit’s guidance.
