Welcoming the Holy Spirit
How would you describe your relationship with the Holy Spirit? Would you say you know about the Holy Spirit or that you know the Holy Spirit? When you were baptized the Holy Spirit of God came to live in you. What was that like for you? What change did it make in how you viewed life itself? Since that day, the day the Holy Spirit moved in, how has your communication with the Spirit been? Do you talk to the Spirit, listen to the Spirit or is the Spirit just there?
The Holy Spirit is a person, distinct from God the Father and God the Son. His role has changed over the ages, but in the latter days He has taken the role of a substitute Jesus to live in the people of God. He lives in saints to help them conform to their role as saved children. Paul reminds us in Philippians 2:12, 13, and 3:3 that we are to worship in the Spirit and be sanctified by the Spirit. We miss God’s greatest gift to Christians when we allow the Spirit to remain dormant in our lives. We talk about getting in touch with our inner selves when we should be in contact with the Spirit of God. How will He guide us into righteousness and renew our hearts if we ignore His presence?
Task for Today: If you have not welcomed the Holy Spirit, then do so immediately. Start a conversation. Ask questions, listen for answers. Rather than asking Him to join your wave length, join His. Call Him close to you when you read the Word of God and when you pray to God. Let Him be in control of your choices and the resulting actions. He is a gift. Do not ignore Him.
