Comments on Philippians

Chapter 3, Verse 6 “…as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.”

Paul wants the Philippians to know he was not ever lukewarm or casual about his belief as a Jewish follower of the law. He was all in, every law, every tradition was sacred to him. How did he conduct himself under the law? Blameless he said. He kept the feasts, the special days, the sabbath and that to the fullest. Any of those who opposed him would have loved to have had his credentials and reputation.

Why does he want them to know that? Because he is going to reject the entire law as a means of pleasing God and gaining salvation. As deeply as it was entrenched in his being he divested himself of every single requirement made by the Jewish law. His ‘Christian’ opponents obviously want to keep part of the law and part of the gospel, but Paul totally rejects that idea. In a few words he will declare that he counted all he had gained as rubbish when compared to what he found in Christ Jesus.

Task for Today: Without Jesus we have nothing. Be sure you start the day with that in mind. There is no peace, no forgiveness, no heaven without Christ Jesus. Today, claim Him as your Lord and Savior. Don’t mess around, this is too important. Repent of your sins, confess Him as Lord and be buried with Him in baptism that you may be His child.
