Loving Self
Nothing wrong with being in love with yourself. It is, in fact, a necessity for loving God and others. We must make sure that our love is based on reality and not make believe. It is not good to think of ourselves more highly than we really are. We know more about ourselves than we do any other person. We are certainly in a position to evaluate our lives in a way we can never evaluate those around us. But what is the standard by which we will evaluate ourselves? Is it the world’s standard, our significant other’s standard, or is it God’s standard?
One gets a good start on self-evaluation by seeing how God rates them. What does God say about me? Let’s see, He believes I am worth the death of His only Son. He believes in me enough to make me a place in His eternal home. He thinks I’m valuable enough to listen to me when I talk to Him about my goods and bads. He places such righteousness in me that He made me His heir.
Task for Today: Think about all that God has wrought in your personal life. You must be important to Him. God loves you and you can love you for the same reasons He does. Works that you might boast? Never! Personal righteousness that you can claim? Nope. It is true that when you have done all you could possibly do you would not be worth your love. But you are worth your love because you are loved.
