Chapter 3, Verse 1 “Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you.”
The ‘finally’ here can best be understood as furthermore. In the midst of danger and hostility from without, he reminds them that they must rejoice within. They are in Jesus and no power on the earth could change that. Regardless of the outcome of the Roman pressure, the Philippians and Paul were in the hands of God and all things would work for their good. Paul is all about joy in spite of persecution or threats. Twelve times he talks about joy in this short letter.
It is hard to know for sure what ‘same things’ Paul is writing about. Best guess might be that he wants to continually remind them to rejoice in the Lord. Keep on keeping on is Paul’s message and don’t be anxious because the church is in the hand of God. God promised to never leave or forsake His people and Paul is sure that God will stand by the Philippians. Rejoice people of God for victory is at hand.
Task for Today: In spite of adverse circumstances, we are to rejoice. Be full of joy whether you are undergoing trial or not. Christians should be the happiest people on God’s earth even though they live in an unhappy world. What is your joy meter showing today? Cast your burdens on the Lord and receive joy untold. If you are a child of God, put a smile on your face. Let the world know your heart is full of joy.
