Chapter 2, Verse 22 “But you know Timothy’s proven worth, how as a son with a father he has served with me in the gospel.”
Timothy is not talk, Timothy is do. One of the greatest hindrances to the cause of Christ in the eyes of the world is the Christian who talks like Christ but fails to do. Timothy was a walking sermon, a living gospel.
There’s worth, and then there is proven worth. We love promises but we love results better, don’t we? Try to imagine a congregation of male and female Timothys. What would its impact on the community be like? The world? Imagine a church across the globe teaching and living the good news of Jesus.
We know from this verse the reason Paul said there was no one with him like Timothy. He could and did count on Timothy to do what needed to be done. With confidence Paul is ready to send Timothy to Philippi to serve the brotherhood.
Task for Today: After thinking about this verse, how do you feel about your own worth? What would the leaders of your congregation say about it? What would others in the group say about your worth? Today, go about your business as a Christian with the intent of proving your worth. Don’t just talk, do!
