Chapter 2, Verse 7 “…but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.”

Jesus left heaven and the Godhead as one served in order to come to earth as a servant. He gave up His deity, His position as God and became a human being. Some think He was part man and part God. Doesn’t work with the word ‘emptied.’ Jesus proved He was really a man by dying. A god who can die is not a god. How did this work? I don’t know. We aren’t told. It is a God thing and it did work, however it was accomplished.

The conception of the Christ was miraculous but the birth was natural. It is a mystery. Mary was right to ask, “How can this thing be?” God gave up being God so that He could die in our place. Remember, gods don’t die. If you ever get the feeling that God doesn’t understand how hard it is to be human, rethink. He knows. He was tempted just like we are.

Task for Today: Think for a few moments on how hard it is to give things up. Think how healthy we would be if it were easy to give up bad habits. Is there something you love so much you would have trouble giving it up? I’m sure there is. What kind of reward would it take? Consider how valuable you must be that God gave up being God so that you could be His child. Finding a task for today should be easy now.
