Comments on Philippians

Chapter 2, Verse 4 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

We sometimes hear our world described as a ‘dog eat dog’ world. Would that be the case if we all followed Paul’s instructions in verse four? Of course not. Christians have a choice to make in regard to how they participate in the world. We can devour one another or we can feed one another. We are not shy about feeding ourselves, are we? Paul reminds the church at Philippi that it should also feed others.

Paul is talking about providing for or taking care of ourselves and others. It is our duty to provide for ourselves and family. It is also our duty to provide for others. The church is, in that sense our family. We provide for self, family, Christians, and all others including enemies.

Task for Today: This is an easy one, isn’t it? I mean to think about. How does it look when we examine our budget? How are dividing our time? All self or is there time for others? How are we using our money? Is there any left over for others? Where is our heart in this matter? Ask yourself some serious questions about this verse as if it was addressed to you and not the Philippians. How are you doing?
