Chapter 1, Verse 14 “And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.”
Paul’s confinement also had an effect on the local church. The imprisonment of Paul encouraged the free Christians to become more involved in preaching and teaching the gospel. We have no idea why they were afraid before, what the danger was. Seeing the confidence manifested by Paul, the church became embolden to tell the good news.
This was no doubt an encouragement to the Philippian brethren whom Paul portrays as having a great interest themselves in spreading the gospel. If the church in Rome could do it, then certainly they could. We can reason then, that the entire situation was working for the betterment of the gospel in Rome and wherever that news was spread.
It was not an easy time to be a Christian even if you were a quiet one but it took some boldness to openly profess your belief and try to convert others.
Task for Today: Do you live in a free country? If you do then you should be spreading the good news without fear. How bold are you? Not afraid of the government, right? Then what is hindering your sharing Jesus at work, at play, at home? Nothing, right? Then your task for today is an easy one. Tell someone about Jesus!
