Chapter 1, Verse 13 “…so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ.”
What is Paul saying here? That everybody, including the imperial guard knows that he is in jail because of the gospel and not because of a crime or politics. To Paul this is important. Perhaps it is his way of telling the Philippians that he has been preaching to everyone in the jail including the guards. That would certainly be ours and their expectations. Paul sees this as a good thing. We don’t know what their reaction was, but they heard the gospel and probably shared what they heard with others.
This revelation ought to remind all of us modern day Christians that we can preach the gospel wherever we are. Hopefully, the people where we work and where we play know that we are followers of Jesus Christ. If they don’t we should be asking ourselves why don’t they. No one met Paul without meeting Jesus.
Task for Today: Let your gospel light shine. You are a believer, make sure the world around you knows it. Your language, your demeanor, the essence of who you are in Christ should be in neon lights. A good way to do this is to share the good news. If they know you, do they know about Jesus?
