Comments on Philippians

Verse 11 “…filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

Paul seems to be talking about how they will appear on the day of Christ. He wants them to be full of righteous fruit that they learned and practiced in their daily walk with Jesus. Anyone who is walking in the light, hand and hand with Jesus, so to speak, demonstrates the righteous behavior of Jesus. The church should be studying the word of God, discerning its use in the world, and practicing that word as they live among the lost. Being filled with righteousness means to have the fruit or the results that such righteousness brings. Simply, the word must be learned, discerned, and lived in life.

What should the end result of this action be? Paul is clear, the actions of the Philippian church should bring glory to God. God was working with the churches and the churches should make sure that God received the praise and honor for that work. It is not unknown for people and churches to take credit for the great things they accomplish. Paul makes it clear that we, God’s people, are instruments of God to do His will in such a way that He gets the glory. To God be the glory.

Task for Today: Make sure the righteousness fruit you are filled with comes from God. Always insist that whatever you say or do that is for God is for His glory and praise. Your life should be one of reflecting glory. Every word, every deed should be done in the name of Jesus. Make sure today that you have hidden yourself behind the Lord and that He is the center of the spotlight you are casting.
