Hebrews 12:8

“If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.”

Our writer continues his theme of not growing weary in the face of difficulty. Being disciplined by God is a good thing, whereas not being disciplined is a bad thing. Not receiving disciplinary actions indicates a lack of a proper relationship with God. Surely, the Hebrews don’t want that to be true. Being a legitimate child of God was very important to them.

They should not give up because of the discipline. It was not a negative sign but a positive one. In fact, he is indicating that they should welcome the discipline because of what it indicates to them.

Task for Today: In the same way, you must count it all joy when you are in the midst of being disciplined. It is a sure sign that God is your Father, and you are His child. You should be singing, “Make me and mold me…”
