Psalm 123:1

“To you, I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!” (Psalm 123:1)

What is the psalmist saying in this brief statement? He is describing the correct attitude for mankind to view God. Like a servant to master or child to parent so humans should see God. It is true that God loves us and is our father and savior, but He is also God. We should not lose sight of who God is. He is enthroned. He is enthroned in the heavens. He is not just a king or a lord; he is the King of all kings and the Lord of all lords.

The psalmist is looking for mercy. The world does not grant mercy. The foe of mankind does not grant mercy. Only the one enthroned on high does that. The world (mankind) is not good to us. The antagonist is not good to us. Everywhere around us is the enemy and so we must look to the only real source of help, and that is the throne room of heaven.

Abraham believed that the God of all the earth would do right. Do you believe that? He is your and my only hope in the midst of evil.

Task for Today: Lift up your eyes to King of mercy, the Lord of goodness. Do not put your trust in the world today and do not put yourself at the will of the evil one. Your only hope for this day and tomorrow’s is He who is enthroned in the heavens!
